Philosophy

I have been natural for over 20 years. During the nearly ten years I spent living in Europe, I developed a deep appreciation for their spa culture and approach to minimalist personal care. Back then, I had very limited access to products marketed for Black hair. That limitation forced me to strip down my routine, look at ingredients, and try different routines and to my surprise, my hair completely thrived.

Now, at 41, back in upstate NY, managing 4a, fine, high-porosity hair that has been compromised by severe anemia, along with maturing, olive skin, my approach is highly intentional.

We live in a time where we finally have the luxury of choice in our personal care. If you want a bathroom where every product is pink, you can build that. If you thrive on avocado masks, the market is full of them. Because of this abundance, having a visually distracting bedroom or bathroom filled with the loud, busy packaging traditionally marketed toward Black hair is entirely unnecessary.

My home is grounded in a Nordic interior aesthetic, and I expect my personal care to seamlessly match those clean, minimal lines.

  • The blow dry approach: I am a blow dry natural. I pass on wash and goes and the massive amount of product required to maintain them. I prefer to use that budget to try products with strong scientific and natural backing, neuroaesthetics, and bring a little spa into my day to day.
  • Lightweight but intensive hydration: To lock in moisture and strength without weighing down my fine hair, I rely on knotting (usually 3 to 10 knots) and a consistent 5 to 7 day wash cycle. I skip thick styling creams and gels that for me, led to mechanical damage due to their stickiness and structural weight. My weekly wash is when I hydrate.
  • Clean, earthy scents: I prefer to skip food-based fragrances like yam, coconut, or vanilla. To make a daily shower feel like a true spa treatment, I choose clean, grounding, or woody/earthy scent profiles.
  • Visual minimalism: Even if a brand has a great formula, if the packaging is visually loud or busy, it just isn’t a fit for my counter. There are a few products that I use in spite of this, but for the most part, I do consider aesthetic and smell as important as performance.

This is simply a curated collection of the routines, tools, and aesthetics that fit beautifully into a minimalist space, but are highly effective for curls, coils, straightening, and porous hair.
